A complete phase-by-phase timeline for applying to Bocconi University for the 2027-2028 academic year. Written by teachers who have prepared students for the SAT and the Bocconi Test since 2010, with a clear recommendation on which test to take and why.
Applying to Bocconi for the 2027-2028 academic year has a rhythm to it. Two selection sessions, three accepted tests, one English language requirement, one 100-euro application fee per program area, and roughly 3,000 places across all Bachelor programs. This guide walks through every phase from test selection in July 2026 to enrollment in September 2027. It also gives you an honest recommendation on which test to take: for most students, that is the SAT, and the reasoning is in Phase 01 below.
Bocconi 2027-2028 accepts three tests: the SAT, the ACT, or the Bocconi Online Test (bookable from 13 July 2026 to 19 January 2027). Two selection sessions: Early (deadline historically late September) and Winter (deadline historically late January). The Early Session gives better admissions odds, earlier financial aid, and earlier visa deadlines. Our recommendation for most students: take the August 22, 2026 SAT and apply Early Session. The SAT is the more versatile test choice, and August-to-Early is the strongest timeline available.
Bocconi has restructured its Bachelor selection for the 2027-2028 academic year. The three-round system used in previous cycles (Early, Winter, Spring) has been replaced with a two-round system: an Early Session and a Winter Session. Around 3,000 places are available overall across all Bachelor programs. For programs taught in English, up to 50 to 55 percent of places may be reserved for international applicants.
The two sessions are not equal. According to the official Bocconi guidance, applying in the Early Session typically gives greater chances of admission, meets earlier financial aid and scholarship opportunities, and respects student visa deadlines for non-EU applicants. This is not a soft recommendation. It is a structural feature of how Bocconi allocates places.
Bocconi does not publish a formal admission rate difference between Early and Winter, but the pattern is consistent: strong candidates apply early, more places are available, and outcomes are announced in time to plan the rest of your application cycle. Treat the Winter Session as a backup, not a primary plan, unless you have a specific reason.
Bocconi accepts three tests for 2027-2028 Bachelor admissions: the SAT, the ACT, and the Bocconi Online Test (BOT). All three are treated equally in the admissions decision. That does not mean all three are equally strategic for your broader application picture. For most students, the SAT is the more versatile choice. Here are the six reasons why.
The SAT is accepted at over 3,000 universities worldwide, including US, UK, Canada, Australia, and most European institutions. If Bocconi is on your list but not your only target, the SAT covers everywhere. The Bocconi Online Test is accepted only at Bocconi.
Many universities that superscore combine your highest section scores across SAT attempts. Two SAT attempts can produce a stronger final score than either single sitting. The Bocconi Online Test gives 4 attempts per year but each is a standalone score with no cross-attempt combination.
The SAT has decades of official practice materials from College Board, published curricula, and now the digital Bluebook simulation. Preparation resources are widely available in every major market. The BOT has a much narrower preparation ecosystem, mostly limited to Bocconi's own official materials and a small number of specialized tutors.
The SAT format overlaps closely with what IB, AP, A-Level, and CBSE curricula already teach. Students following these programs need less "format translation" time to prepare. The Bocconi Online Test uses a more idiosyncratic format that requires learning the specific test conventions from scratch.
A strong SAT score signals to any admissions committee, employer, or grad school anywhere. It is a globally recognized academic marker. A strong Bocconi Online Test score signals only to Bocconi. If you ever apply to another university, another program, or another opportunity that considers standardized test scores, the SAT is the score that speaks.
The SAT is an established, stable test with predictable annual cycles. The Bocconi Online Test is a newer instrument that Bocconi has revised in recent years. Investing your prep time in the SAT is investing in a durable credential. The BOT credential expires the moment you enroll (or do not enroll) at Bocconi.
None of the above is a knock on the BOT. It is a legitimate, accepted test that has helped many students gain admission to Bocconi. It is the right choice specifically when:
Outside these situations, the SAT is the stronger strategic investment. For a deeper comparison of the two tests including score conversion and scoring bands, see our SAT vs Bocconi Test guide in English, or the Bocconi SAT guide in Italian.
| Dimension | SAT | Bocconi Online Test |

Once you have chosen your test, prep and sit it before the Early Session application deadline. If you followed our recommendation and chose the SAT, here is the timing:
The August 22, 2026 SAT is the strongest choice for a Bocconi Early Session application. Scores release September 4, 2026, which arrives before the historically late September Early Session deadline. See our 51-day SAT study plan for the specific weekly structure, and our international SAT registration guide for deadlines and test center strategy.
The September 12 SAT is the backup if you cannot make August 22 work. Scores release September 25, which may or may not arrive in time for the Early Session depending on the exact 2027-2028 deadline. See our August 22 vs September 12 SAT decision framework.
The Bocconi Online Test booking window opens 13 July 2026. Book your first attempt as soon as possible after that date. You have up to 4 attempts per academic year. Space attempts approximately 4 to 6 weeks apart to allow real review between them.
Some BOT students book all 4 attempts within a 2-week window "just to be safe." This wastes your attempts. If you did not improve between the first and second, the third and fourth will not either. Space your attempts and treat each one as a serious sitting.
Once you have a valid test score, submit your application through the Bocconi portal. The application fee is 100 euros per application area (Undergraduate School, Law School, and HEC-Bocconi Double Degree are separate areas with separate fees). Application fees are not refundable once submitted.
Bocconi allows you to select multiple programs within a single application area. Choose in order of preference. If your first-choice program is full but a lower-preference program has spots, you can be offered admission to the lower-preference program. Rank thoughtfully.
Bocconi has not yet published exact 2027-2028 Early Session and Winter Session deadlines as of July 2026. Historical patterns suggest late September for the Early Session and late January for the Winter Session. Verify the official deadlines on Bocconi's admissions page when they are announced, and treat them as hard boundaries.
Bocconi Early Session results are typically published in late November. Winter Session results are published in spring. Once admitted, you have approximately three weeks to complete enrollment procedures.
The single most common mistake in Bocconi applications is treating the English language certification as an afterthought. Students focus on the SAT, get admitted, then scramble in June to find an English test date. Book your English certification as early as your entrance test.
Not every applicant should follow the same sequence. Four common strategies work, ranked here by strength for a typical competitive applicant:
Timeline: Prep in July, take August 22 SAT, apply Early Session in September with September 4 score.
Best for: Most competitive applicants. Combines the more versatile test with the stronger admission session.
Trade-off: Tight prep window requires disciplined execution. See our 51-day study plan.
Timeline: Prep in July and August, take September 12 SAT, apply Winter Session in January.
Best for: Students who need more prep time or whose July or August schedule makes the August SAT impossible.
Trade-off: Fewer places available in Winter, later financial aid deadlines.
Timeline: Take August 22 SAT and 2-3 BOT attempts across July to December. Submit whichever score is stronger.
Best for: Students targeting elite Bocconi programs (HEC-Bocconi Double Degree, World Bachelor in Business) who can genuinely handle both prep tracks.
Trade-off: Doubles prep workload. Rarely improves outcomes unless both preps are executed at high quality.
Timeline: Book first BOT attempt from 13 July 2026. Space up to 4 attempts. Apply Early or Winter Session.
Best for: Students whose only university target is Bocconi and who prefer the BOT format.
Trade-off: Score has no value outside Bocconi. No superscoring across attempts.
All Bocconi Bachelor programs taught in English require English proficiency at the B2 level (Common European Framework of Reference) for enrollment. Programs in Economics and Management and in Law are taught in Italian and have different language requirements.
Bocconi accepts multiple certifications for the B2 requirement. Common ones include the TOEFL iBT, IELTS, Cambridge English exams (First, Advanced, Proficiency), the Bocconi English Language Proficiency Test, and other equivalents. Check the official Bocconi language requirement page for the exact list and minimum scores.
Book your English certification test with at least 3 months of buffer before the enrollment deadline (typically 30 June). If you fail on your first attempt, you need time to retake. Do not leave this until May or June. Every year, students lose their Bocconi place because they cannot certify B2 in time.
Bocconi offers two main financial aid tracks for first-year students:
Financial aid application windows for the 2026-2027 cycle ran approximately from mid-January (Early Session) through June (Winter and Spring rounds). The 2027-2028 windows will likely follow a similar pattern. Historically, Early Session applicants have access to the earliest funding rounds, which is another reason to prioritize the Early Session if you need financial aid.
Detailed financial aid deadlines are published on the Bocconi funding page after admission results are known.
Bocconi is one of the most competitive undergraduate admissions in Europe. Self-study works for many students, but three specific situations benefit disproportionately from one-to-one coaching.
Students targeting the HEC-Bocconi Double Degree, World Bachelor in Business, or Global Law program. These programs have the highest entry bars in the Bocconi system. A coach who has taken students through these specific tracks knows what admission committees prioritize.
Students preparing for the SAT with a target score of 1500+ for elite Bocconi programs. The gap between 1450 and 1550 is not more of the same practice. It is specific technique work on the hardest question types that a specialist teacher can address in one session.
Students combining Bocconi with US or UK applications. Bocconi's timeline runs against US Early Decision and UK UCAS deadlines. A coach who has managed multi-country application timelines can prevent bottlenecks.
Our team at Epic Exam Prep has prepared students for Bocconi across Milan, Barcelona, Madrid, Zurich, and online since 2010. Whether you need SAT-specific coaching for Bocconi, combined SAT and BOT coaching, or Bocconi application strategy across multi-country timelines, we can help.

Bocconi accepts the SAT, ACT, or Bocconi Online Test (BOT) for both Undergraduate School and Law School programs in the 2027-2028 cycle. Candidates must have already taken a test and obtained a valid score before submitting their application.
Bocconi evaluates both tests equally, but the SAT is generally the more versatile choice for most students. The SAT is accepted at over 3,000 universities worldwide, has a mature official preparation ecosystem, allows superscoring across attempts, and matches the format most international curricula prepare students for. The Bocconi Online Test is the right choice when Bocconi is your primary or only target and you prefer the BOT format specifically.
Six reasons: broader university acceptance (3,000+ universities vs Bocconi only), superscoring across attempts, mature preparation resources, format familiarity with IB/AP/A-Level/CBSE curricula, portfolio value for future admissions, and transferability if you apply to grad school later. The Bocconi Online Test is a valid choice for Bocconi-only applicants but does not carry these compounding benefits.
For the 2027-2028 academic year, Bocconi has two selection sessions: the Early Session and the Winter Session. Applying in the Early Session typically gives better admission chances, access to earlier financial aid and scholarship opportunities, and respects student visa deadlines for non-EU applicants.
The Bocconi Online Test for International Candidates can be booked from 13 July 2026 to 19 January 2027 on the dedicated Bocconi platform. You can take up to 4 attempts per academic year for each of the two Bocconi test types.
Historically the Bocconi Early Session deadline falls in late September. Bocconi has not yet published the exact 2027-2028 dates as of July 2026. Verify the official deadline on the Bocconi website when it is announced.
Historically the Bocconi Winter Session deadline falls in late January. Bocconi has not yet published the exact 2027-2028 dates as of July 2026. Verify the official deadline on the Bocconi website.
Yes, if you can prepare properly. The August 22, 2026 SAT score releases on September 4, 2026, which arrives before the historical late September Early Session deadline. That is the tightest but cleanest SAT-to-Bocconi timeline for the Early Session and the recommended path for most competitive applicants.
Bocconi does not publish an official minimum SAT score, but competitive applicants typically score 1400 or higher, with successful applicants to English-taught programs often scoring 1450+. Elite programs like the HEC-Bocconi Double Degree, World Bachelor in Business, and Global Law tend to attract applicants scoring 1500+. See our SAT vs Bocconi Test guide for a detailed score comparison.
The application fee is 100 euros per application. If you apply to programs in both the Undergraduate School area and the School of Law area, or to the HEC-Bocconi Double Degree, each area requires its own application fee. Application fees are not refundable once the application is submitted.
Bocconi requires English proficiency at the B2 level (Common European Framework) for enrollment in English-taught programs. Accepted certifications include TOEFL, IELTS, Cambridge English exams, and the Bocconi English Language Proficiency Test. The certification must be submitted by the enrollment deadline.
Bocconi Early Session results are typically published in late November of the same year the application was submitted. Students then have approximately three weeks to confirm their enrollment.
Yes. You can apply to Bocconi during your final year of high school. Your secondary school diploma must be obtained and validated by the enrollment deadline of the academic year you plan to attend.
Only if you have enough prep bandwidth to do both well. Doubling your prep workload without a coordinated plan usually means doing neither well. For most students, one strong SAT score is more useful than two mediocre scores across formats. If you have the capacity, take the SAT as your primary test and use the BOT as a supplementary attempt.
Not everyone. Students with strong fundamentals can prepare with self-study. Students targeting elite programs, needing accountability, or preparing for multi-country applications often benefit from one-to-one coaching. Epic Exam Prep has prepared students for the SAT and Bocconi admissions since 2010.
