Quick answer: TU Delft publishes these English requirements on its official pages (checked October 27, 2026). MSc programmes: band 5.0 or 100 on the old scale. English-taught BSc programmes (Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Nanobiology, Applied Earth Sciences): 90 on the old scale. Where a page states only an old 0 to 120 score, we show "Not stated" for the new band rather than converting it ourselves.

MSc programmes
“TU Delft only accepts TOEFL iBT. Certificates obtained after January 21, 2026: Minimum overall score: 5 Minimum score for each section: 4.5 Certificates obtained before January 21, 2026: Minimum overall score: 100 Minimum score for each section: 22 TOEFL MyBest scores are not accepted.”
All scores must come from a single test, no older than two years on the day you apply. IELTS: 7.0 with 6.5 in each section. Exempt if you are a citizen of, or hold a bachelor's from, Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the UK or the USA.
English-taught BSc programmes (Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Nanobiology, Applied Earth Sciences)
“You are required to pass one of the following language tests with the indicated minimum score requirement: TOEFL iBT 90 (internet based), or IELTS 6.5 (Academic version, Overall Band Score), or University of Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) or Certificate in Advanced English (CAE).”
Only an old-scale score is published; no 1-6 band minimum is stated. Certificates older than two years when you complete your application are not accepted. Dutch-taught BSc programmes need TOEFL iBT 70 instead.

How the new 1 to 6 scale applies to TU Delft
Since January 21, 2026, TOEFL iBT scores are reported in bands from 1 to 6. Each band covers a range of old scores, so the same old minimum can sit anywhere inside a band.
- For MSc programmes, TU Delft asks for 100 on the old scale. On the ETS comparison, 100 falls in band 5.0 (which starts at 95; CEFR C1). TU Delft itself publishes band 5.0, which matches.
- For English-taught BSc programmes (Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Nanobiology, Applied Earth Sciences), TU Delft asks for 90 on the old scale. On the ETS comparison, 90 falls in band 4.5 (which starts at 86; CEFR B2). The page we checked does not state its own band, so confirm with the admissions office before relying on a new-scale score.

What score should you aim for?
Our advice (not an official TU Delft rule): treat the published number as a floor. Aim half a band above the minimum for your program, so for a band 5.0 requirement plan for 5.5 on your practice tests, so one weaker section on test day does not take your overall score under the line. Check section minimums too: an overall band can hide a low Speaking or Writing score.
