INSEAD: the world's most international business school

INSEAD's Fontainebleau campus, located in the Forest of Fontainebleau approximately one hour south of Paris, is home to one of the most internationally diverse MBA programs in the world, a typical incoming class represents over 75 nationalities. According to INSEAD's official MBA admissions page, non-native English speakers are required to submit a valid TOEFL, IELTS, or PTE Academic score. INSEAD does not publish a single minimum TOEFL score, instead, it assesses candidates holistically and expects applicants to demonstrate the English fluency required to participate meaningfully in an intensive, discussion-based, multilingual learning environment.

For the INSEAD Master in Management program, INSEAD's official MIM academic performance page states that the recommended TOEFL score is 103 or above. TOEFL scores are valid for two years from the test date.

What changed in TOEFL 2026, and why it matters

The TOEFL iBT was completely redesigned on January 21, 2026. If you are using preparation materials from before that date, a significant portion of what you have been practicing no longer reflects the current exam. The test is now approximately 90 minutes, significantly shorter than the previous version. Reading and Listening use a new adaptive format. The Speaking section was completely rebuilt with two entirely new tasks: Listen and Repeat and Take an Interview. Writing replaced its long essays with three shorter practical tasks. For students targeting INSEAD, HEC Paris, and Sciences Po, the Speaking section deserves particular attention. The Take an Interview task requires four spontaneous spoken responses of 45 seconds each with zero preparation time. This is genuinely different from the old TOEFL format, which included preparation time for every Speaking task. The scoring engine specifically penalizes memorized templates and rewards natural, organized spontaneous speech.

TOEFL ou IELTS pour les universités françaises ?

La plupart des Grandes Écoles françaises acceptent le TOEFL et l'IELTS avec des exigences équivalentes. HEC Paris, INSEAD, ESSEC, EDHEC et EMLYON acceptent les deux tests. Le choix entre TOEFL et IELTS dépend souvent de votre stratégie globale de candidature.

Le TOEFL est plus stratégique si vous postulez également à des universités américaines. Les universités des États-Unis privilégient historiquement le TOEFL, développé par ETS, l'organisme américain qui gère aussi le GRE et le GMAT.

L'IELTS est plus adapté si vos candidatures incluent le Royaume-Uni, l'Australie ou le Canada. Ces pays ont une préférence marquée pour l'IELTS, développé par le British Council.

Cost and practical information

The TOEFL iBT costs 282 USD (approximately 240 EUR) in France for both the test center and Home Edition versions. Results are delivered within approximately 72 hours of your test date. Score reports are sent directly to institutions you designate during registration. You can designate up to four free score reports during registration. Additional reports cost 25 USD per institution.

TOEFL scores are valid for two years from your test date. A score from April 2026 remains valid until April 2028, covering multiple application rounds for both MBA and MSc programs at INSEAD, HEC Paris, Sciences Po, and other institutions. Financement CPF (Compte Personnel de Formation)

Le TOEFL figure parmi les certifications éligibles au Compte Personnel de Formation (CPF), inscrit au Répertoire Spécifique (RS). Chaque salarié français cumule 500 EUR par an sur son compte CPF (800 EUR par an pour les salariés sans diplôme de niveau CAP), avec un plafond de 5 000 EUR.

Important : depuis le 2 avril 2026, la mobilisation du CPF impose un reste à charge personnel de 150 EUR minimum, quel que soit le coût total de la formation. Les demandeurs d'emploi et les bénéficiaires d'un abondement employeur en sont exonérés.

Pour les certifications de langues comme le TOEFL, le CPF est plafonné à 1 500 EUR. Cela couvre les frais du test (environ 240 EUR) et une partie de la préparation via un organisme agréé Qualiopi.

Vérifiez votre solde uniquement sur moncompteformation.gouv.fr, la seule plateforme officielle. Attention aux fraudes : aucun démarchage officiel n'existe par téléphone ou SMS.
